I have always been a creative person; I see it as a way of expressing who I am, when studying this subject for the past couple of years I have extended my knowledge of the fashion industry and my love of it has grown. I still have a lot more to learn and don’t want to give up my ambition which has become a huge part of me but I feel that this course will help to build the pathway to my future. I am not afraid to take risks and this can be seen in the work I have submitted ranging from fashion to art.

The first set of images show the ‘Distortion’ project in which I researched into this word and produced my own concept of manipulating the body. I came up with the idea of ‘Perfection’ and the impact society has on it. Taking this concept to the extreme and looking at Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein I produced an outcome of a distorted, hand stitched garment.
The next sets of images are the ‘Vessel’ project, looking at an underwater theme I had chosen I experimented with different materials influenced by my theme as well as artists and designers. I chose this theme as it is not something which is seen to the everyday eye and I felt that there are a lot of unusual patterns and shapes which I translated into a 3D piece.
I have also included images from a paper project, looking into the manipulation of paper I was opened up to many new artists and designers. Refining the samples I had made I was inspired by Art Nouveau and produced an outcome of a lace detail piece.
The drawings in this work show my observational skills looking at both organic and manmade objects. I now see drawing as recording a visual response, adding pattern to paper even if it is an ordinary object both literally and decoratively.

Distortion Project

Researching into designers I was inspired to experiment with different materials to create a distorted outcome.

Sketchbook work - Experimentation

Looking into artists as well as designers I came up with the idea to experiment with structure and stitch creating 'skin' like pieces.

Final Piece - Distortion

Inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein I produced an outcome of a stitched together garment showing my own concept on the distortion of the body.

The Vessel Project

Researching into designers for ideas on my own final piece as well as photocopying my own samples and placing them onto design ideas to see the initial outcome.

Experimenting with Materials and Design Ideas

I experimented with different materials and did a felt making workshop, with one of the felt samples I added stitch inspired by my theme. With the samples I had made I drew loose quick designs to see how I could layer them together.

Paper Project

Research work and experimentation with paper from the influences I found, being inspired to create a contrast of structure and delicacy with the manipulation of paper.

Sketchbook Work

Looking at the designer Marcia Ganem for inspiration I was influenced by her natural style of her garments and decided to look into the Art Nouveau style to continue and develop the natural style of my lace cut out samples.

Experimentation with Paper

Experimenting with different types of paper and the Art Nouveau style I tried out different cut outs and placed them onto the mannequin to see how the skin is revealed underneath.

Final Piece - Manipulation of Paper

From the researched I gathered and being influenced by the Art Nouveau style I created a garment that revealed the skin underneath with the lace cut out. I really like the outcome of this as it is feminine and bold with the contrasting colours of the feathers.

Stick and Ink Drawing

I created this drawing when on the rotation of the course, I really like this drawing as it is loose and unstructured. I really like how you can get different shapes of lines when using different techniques when drawing.

Latex drawing

Looking closely into architecture I was inspired by the patterns on aged buldings and from a picture I had taken I created a latex drawing with ink and pastel. I like the different tones I got preventing the drawing from looking flat.

Charcoal Line Drawing

I created a line drawing using charcoal for a project I did looking into architecture and the different shapes and patterns I can get from this. I like the different tones I got from this creating a pattern rather than a building.
